#1. Green Bay Packers Became The First Back To Back Super Bowl Champions.

The 1968 Super Bowl would be the second time that the Packers would be in the big game, and they would again come out on top after trouncing the Oakland Raiders.

The Miami Dolphins would become the next team to accomplish the same feat when Don Shula's boys won back-to-back Super Bowls.

Through 50 years of the Super Bowl, there have been seven teams to repeat, with the Pittsburgh Steelers doing it twice.

#2. It Would Be Vince Lombardi's Last Super Bowl

Vince Lombardi had dominated the 1960s with his Packer teams, but 1968 would be his last rodeo.

After winning the big game in 1967, Lombardi returned and repeated as champion. After the season, he would step away and become General Manager and then become the coach of the Washington Redskins before his death in 1970.

After his quick passing, the Super Bowl trophy's name would be changed to the Lombardi Trophy.

#3. Bart Starr Would Repeat As Super Bowl MVP

Bart Starr

Despite having a less-than-stellar season, Bart Starr rallied during the postseason and seemed to return to form.

He would be the first and only one of two in the history of the Super Bowl to win back-to-back Super Bowl MVP. The only other player to accomplish this would be Terry Bradshaw in the 1970s.

He was 13 of 24 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown. The touchdown came on a 62-yard post to Boyd Dowler that put them up 13 - 0 in the 2nd quarter.

#4. 1968 Was The First Super Bowl To Use Slingshot Goal Posts

Goal posts in the early days of football were crude-looking and looked like what you would see at a small high school. There were two posts, and it was located in the back of the end zone, which would lead to some frustrating plays.

Jim Trimble invented the slingshot goalpost, which is what professional teams still use. This allowed for just one bar to be in the ground rather than two and was less obtrusive.

The posts would remain on the goal line until the 1974 NFL Season.

#5. 80 Percent Of The United States Lost Its Feed To The Game

If this were to happen today, it would cause a riot.

In the 1968 Super Bowl, CBS lost its feed for a portion of the late second half and for 3 minutes at halftime.

The game did not lose its feed for much of the northeast, which would include New York City, Cleveland, and Philadelphia.

CBS said that the problem came because of the breakdown of the AT&T cable lines.

There was not much fallout because the game was already well in hand by halftime.

#6. The Packers Were Favored By 14 Points

The AFL was still trying to earn respect from their bigger and older brother, the NFL, but those who placed money on the game were not buying their legitimacy.

The Packers came into the game favored by 14 points and easily trounced the Raiders when they won 33 - 14. The score looks closer than it was due to a touchdown when the game was already decided.

The game most considered to be the most competitive was the Packers vs. Cowboys in the Ice Bowl. The Packers managed to get a win despite the cold weather.
