Amphitrite was a sea nymph and the wife of Poseidon. She bore the temperamental sea god two children, Triton and Rhode, and also gave birth to other children, such as seals and dolphins.
Although she is not spoken of too much, Amphitrite was an important deity in early Greek mythology. She was present at the birth of Apollo and witnessed Artemis aid her mother in giving birth to the sun god. As time progressed, she became less prevalent in Greek culture.
