Ohio was admitted into the Union on March 1, 1803, and had already seen action in various Indian Wars. Unlike many battleground states, Ohio is tucked away and does not share a land border.
While it did see some action in the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, and Civil War, most of the battlefields in Ohio came from the War of 1812. This would have been a time when Ohio would have been a border state and on the edge of the frontier.
Prior to European colonization, there were many Native Americans that thrived throughout the state.
While there were no significant battles in Ohio during the Civil War, it served as a large depot to the Underground Railroad, housed many Confederate Prisoners, and was the birthplace of many influential men such as Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, and James Birdseye McPherson.
