What Did The Comanche Tribe Hunt?

The Comanches were excellent with the horse, which allowed them to become superior hunters. They lived off of Bison but also hunted Pronghorn, Bear, Deer, Elk, and Wild Turkey.

hen the game was scarce, they would hunt wild Mustangs and Fowl.

They would only eat fowl if they were starving because they believed it was cowardice. They would also avoid eating dogs and wolves because they believed them to be their ancestor.

Bison was the primary food source and would become a source of contention with settlers coming in because they would decimate the once abundant population of bison.

What Did The Comanche Grow?

The Comanche were not known for their agricultural prowess. They did grow some vegetables.

They did grow roots to supplement as well as corn. Some of the roots were spinach, prairie turnips, and potatoes. They would also use wild herbs for flavoring.

The Comanche did eat wild berries when they were available.
