How To Research Your Revolutionary War Ancestor

Compiled Service Records

The first place to being is by looking at the compiled service records of your ancestor.

What is a compiled service record?

The compiled service records were created in 1894 to document the service of individuals that fought in the major conflicts of America. These compiled records helped with veterans applying for pensions and help us in learning how our ancestor served during the revolutionary war.

The compiled records were created from two sources:

  • Revolutionary War Rolls
  • Number Records Books

I know that is a little bit technical and perhaps you don't care, but if you ever want to dive deeper into your records it is good to know where they originated.

Compiled service records for the Revolutionary War can be found on Fold3.
