My question is why?
What is it that you find interesting about these characters or perhaps you are ignorant to all the stories and have a curiosity. Whatever the reason, Greek mythology gods have interested many folks for many centuries. Their stories can often teach of practical lessons that we can use in everyday life.
The Greek gods are often divided into different categories:
- Mount Olympian Gods: The primary gods of the Greeks were known as the Olympians. Together they presided over every aspect of human life.
- Titan Gods: The Titans were the deities in Greek mythology that preceded the Olympians.
- Primordial Gods: The primordial deities are the first gods and goddesses born from the void of Chaos. In Orphic tradition, they are born from Chronos and Ananke.
- Underworld: The gods of the underworld were named "Theoi Khthonioi" or Chthonian gods by the Greeks. They were ruled by the grim god Hades and his queen Persephone.
- Sea Gods: The ancient Greek term for sea gods was "Theoi Halioi" or "Theoi Einalioi." These deities were commanded by the Sea-King Poseidon and his queen Amphitrite.
- Sky Gods: The gods of the sky and weather were named "Theoi Ouranioi" or "Theoi Meteoroi" by the Greeks. They were under the command of Zeus and Hera, the king and queen of heaven.
- Rustic Gods: were the gods of the countryside, the pastures and wild forests. They fell under the dominion of three gods: Hermes the lord of the herds, Dionysos the god of wild vegetation, and Artemis queen of the beasts.
- Agrarian Gods: Most of these were also deities of the Mystery Cults of Demeter and Persephone
- Deified Mortals: These were men and women who were elevated by the gods for their contributions to mankind or by luck. Some were elevated to godhood posthumously.
These gods range from major to minor gods and each has a story that is attached to them.
