Thomas Rolfe Family Tree and Descendants

Thomas Rolfe was the only son of John Rolfe and Pocahontas. He was born in Jamestown, Virginia, and he was baptized in the Church of England.

Thomas Rolfe was educated in England and Virginia. He returned to Virginia in 1635 and married Jane Poythress, the daughter of a wealthy planter. They had one child together

Thomas Rolfe was a successful planter and businessman. He also served as a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses.

He died in about 1680.

Family Overview

Thomas Rolfe came from an infamous family in American History.

His father was an innovative planter who began the process of making Virginia a wealthy colony, and his mother was Pocahontas, who, despite dying young, left a lasting legacy that has been portrayed in American film.

The Rolfe family was a wealthy family in England and had a good reputation. His grandfather was known for his kindness and generosity.

He married and only had one daughter; however, that daughter had a son, and he had many children that would produce many descendants.

Parents:

John Rolfe (1585 - 1622) - He was an important colonist who married Pocahontas and also learned how to plant a different form of tobacco that grew in the New World. His discovery helped make Virginia a wealthy colony.

Pocahontas (1595 - 1617) - She became infamous in American History for her saving of Captain John Smith from her father. She then married John Rolfe and had a son. She died in England at a young age, possibly due to European disease. 

Spouse:

Jane Poythress (1630 - 1676) - She was born in Virginia and married Thomas Rolfe, and the two had one daughter together. Their daughter would have a son. 

Children:

Jane Rolfe (1650 - 1676) - She died at a young age but married and had a child. She may have had another child who died at birth. Her son became an important colonist in Virginia and had many children.

Siblings:

Bermuda Rolfe (1610) - The only daughter of John and his first wife. She died in Bermuda after a shipwreck.

Ka Okee Jane Powhatan (1612 - 1642) - She was born in the first marriage of his mother. It is doubtful he knew her much since he lived in England for much of his life.

Elizabeth Rolfe (1620 - 1635) - Her records are questionable. She was married young, had a child young, and died by the age of 15.
