Thomas Williams boarded the Mayflower for Plymouth Colony in 1620 alone. He did not have any wife or children with him for the journey.
He had lived in England prior to moving to Leiden, Holland. The Separatist movement occurred under King James I and would eventually throw England into the English Reformation and cause future King Charles I to be branded a tyrant and a civil war ensue leading to his death.

At the time of the Pilgrims, the Reformation had not begun and popular support was still with the Anglican Church.
Thomas Williams would have been in England during this time which is why he escaped to Leiden which was much more tolerant.
He sailed to the New World and signed the Mayflower Compact after many believed that the English law no longer applied to them since they did not make it to Virginia.
After setting foot on the new continent, Williams would endure with the others a terrible winter that he was not prepared to undertake. According to William Bradford, He would die during the first winter along with half of those that sailed on the Mayflower.
